Peter Parker — Spider-Man!

Civil War is finally out. I redid Spidey. He's good now. I made him good. Go look at him. Ignore this ancient, ancient post.
————————————————————————————————————————
I've come back to look over this entry several times, and a lot of things have bugged me quite a bit (arachnid pun not intended). This is primarily the incongruence of the source material that I used; in other words, I just went over some wiki articles and tried to generally replicate what I remember Pete doing rather than what he's actually done.

I'm leaving the original text from Spidey's entry down below, but I'm going to give you some stats and explanations for  that from the Amazing Spider-Man movies (which I went back to actively Savage)!

Name: Peter Parker
Race: Human
Experience: 90 (Legendary)
Agility d12+1; Smarts d10; Spirit d8; Strength d12+4; Vigor d10
Pace 6; Parry 7; Charisma 0; Toughness 11
Hindrances: Dependent (Gwen Stacy), Heroic, Loyal, Out of My League
Edges: Arcane Background (Super Powers), Brave, Ambidextrous, First Strike, Quick, Acrobat, Mastery (Ensnare), Counterattack, Take the Hit, Dodge.
Skills: Fighting d8, Knowledge (Engineering) d8, Knowledge (Photography) d6, Knowledge (Science) d8, Investigation d6, Notice d10, Persuasion d6, Repair d8, Shooting d10, Stealth d6, Taunt d8
Inventory: Camera, web shooters.
Super Powers:
  • Attack, Ranged (1): Range 12/24/48, Damage 2d6. Device (–1, Web Shooters).
  • Attack, Ranged (1): Range 12/24/48, Damage 2d6. Device (–1, Web Shooters). This power was taken twice, since he has one shooter on each arm and they work independently of one another.
  • Danger Sense (2): Spider Sense. Limitation (–1, must be active to use Extra Action, Super Edge, Super Skills, and Uncanny Reflexes).
  • Ensnare (5): Very Strong. Projectile. Device (–1, web shooters). (Webbing.)
  • Extra Action (3): Spider Sense.
  • Leaping (2): Level 2, can leap 4” vertically or 8” horizontally.
  • Regeneration (1): Level 1, rolls to heal every day.
  • Super Attribute (22): Agility +3, Strength +6, Vigor +2.
  • Super Edge (6): Ambidextrous, First Strike, Quick.
  • Super Skill (4): Fighting +2, Shooting +2.
  • Swinging (7): Distance, Strong Line (4), contingent on attack, ranged.
  • Toughness +4 (4): Hyper-dense musculature.
  • Uncanny Reflexes (10): –4 to hit. Blinding Reflexes. (Perceives everything in slow motion with Spider Sense).
  • Wall Walker (1): Increased molecular coefficient of friction.
The Peter Parker from the movies is, unsurprisingly, not as powerful as that from the comics. Without the training and help he's received from others in the Marvel universe, Spider-Man has not been trained in combat and relies almost purely on instinct. Oddly enough, Pete comes out to a Heavy Hitter (with Super Karma), even given that per description, he's more of a four color hero. It was also rather fitting to provide him with Mastery over his ensnare power, given the utility he manages to get out of it.

It's an interesting look at two different versions of the same hero, both recognizable but still relatively distinguished. Leave questions and such below.

ORIGINAL TEXT:
————————————————————————————————————————
Never fear; your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is here!

Probably the third most popular superhero of all time, behind Superman and Batman, Spider-Man is a diverse, interesting, and incredibly fun hero! Personally, I'm liking the new Amazing Spider-Man movies more than the Toby McGuire series from last decade, but I digress.

This is the first character we'll make with the new Super Powers Companion, so let's get started!

Name: Peter Parker
Race: Human
Experience: 200 (Legendary)
Agility d12+2; Smarts d10; Spirit d10; Strength d12+4; Vigor d10
Pace 6; Parry 8; Charisma 0; Toughness 11
Hindrances: Heroic, Code of Honor, Dependent, Quirk (Cheesy one-liners)
Edges: Arcane Background (Super Powers), Brave, Quick, Scholar (Engineering & Science), Acrobat, Elan, Improved Combat Sense, Improved First Strike, Take the Hit, Two-Fisted, Improved Extraction, Combat Reflexes
Skills: Fighting d12, Knowledge (Engineering) d8, Knowledge (Photography) d6, Knowledge (Science) d8, Investigation d8, Notice d10, Persuasion d6, Repair d8, Shooting d10, Stealth d10, Taunt d8
Inventory: Camera.
Super Powers:
  • Attack, Ranged (2): Range 12/24/48, Damage 2d6. Device (–1, Web Shooters). This power was taken twice, since he has one shooter on each arm and they work independently of one another.
  • Broadcast (1): One Channel. (Spider-Man can tap into radio stations with his Spider Sense).
  • Danger Sense (2): Spider Sense.
  • Ensnare (4): Very Strong. Projectile, contingent on attack, ranged.
  • Leaping (3): Level 3, can leap 8” vertically or 16” horizontally. Strong legs.
  • Regeneration (2): Level 1, rolls to heal every day.
  • Speed (4): Pace 24, –1 to hit.
  • Super Attribute (24): Agility +4, Strength +6, Vigor +2.
  • Swinging (4): Distance, Strong Line (2), contingent on attack, ranged.
  • Toughness +4 (4): Hyper-dense musculature.
  • Uncanny Reflexes (4): –2 to hit. (Perceives everything in slow motion with Spider Sense).
  • Wall Walker (1): Increased molecular coefficient of friction.
The only changes to rules-as-written here is the addition of the Distance modifier on swinging (letting him swing anywhere within 24" instead of 12") and the cost of the speed power, bumped down to 4 Power Points from 5. That's because a Pace of 24" is somewhere around 26 miles an hour, so I changed the Pace 48 level to be equal to 60 mph instead of 120. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go buy the Super Powers Companion (only $10 for the PDF) and peruse it. It's also worth noting that he was given the Arcane Background (Super Powers) Edge for free, due to the nature of his setting.

That said, Spider-Man is a 4-Color hero with Super Karma for a total of 55 Power Points. He was bitten by a radioactive spider, and begins with Quick and Brave. Spider-Man is one of the most agile humans in history, and is highly intelligent. He built his web-shooters himself to compliment his powers. He is a sneaky, snarky guy that pokes fun at everything (Stealth, Taunt, Quirk).

Over his years of fighting crime, Spider-Man has garnered some serious combat capabilities. His spider sense enhances his reflexes and awareness (Combat Sense, First Strike, Extraction, Combat Reflexes), and his experience with his web shooters has allowed him to use them together almost instinctively (Two-Fisted). While not reflected through Edges, he makes extensive use of Tricks and Taunts in combat

His uncle Ben's motto, "with great power comes great responsibility," has stuck with Peter for years, driving his heroic and fundamentally good nature, making him push himself beyond all odds (Elan and Take the Hit). Whether it be Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy, or someone else, he almost always has a Dependent, and boy does she cause grief.

There you have it: the Amazing Spider-Man! Leave questions, comments, or rage and tears down below.

  1. Just discovered the site, and it's really awesome! I was wondering, what iteration of Spider-man is this based on? I've not familiar with him being able to tap into radio signals, and I'm a pretty obsessive fan.

    1. While I was researching him, it came up as apparently part of his Spider Sense with the new Amazing Spider-Man movies, thought I'm somewhat considering switching this out for the Ultimate Spider-Man iteration, which has some slightly different interesting gadgets.
